This is best reflected in the accessible car handling: WRC 6 is by no means a hardcore simulation, but the physics stil havel enough depth to avoid comparisons with SEGA Rally to satisfy rally game veterans. WRC 6, on the other hand, utilises its license to set itself apart and appeal to a broader audience. Rally evolvedĭiRT Rally has its place in the genre, but its steep learning curve doesn’t appeal to everyone. With WRC 6, however, Kylotonn has built on this foundation and improved just about every aspect with commendable diligence. The visuals were dated, the stage designs were unrealistic and the driving physics were underdeveloped. Last year’s WRC 5 was a respectable debut from the French firm setting a solid foundation for the series, but, as our developer interview will attest, the team had to painstakingly create all assets from scratch in an incredibly short time – and the game suffered for it. For an annual series like WRC with tight development times, it’s a tough act to follow.Īnd yet returning developer Kylotonn Games make an admirable attempt to compete with Codemasters with WRC 6, their second game in the series following their takeover from Milestone’s four game reign. I LOVE both, but think someone interested in getting into these kinds of games would have better luck with dirt rally 2.0 than wrc8.Let’s get this out of the way: WRC 6 isn’t in the same league as the revered DiRT Rally. i think its a really nice addition, but for someone trying to get into the sport/game, it could be overwhelming. make sure you read up or watch video reviews detailing the team management aspect. wrc8 is definitely "more complicated" to get into races.and they have water hazards, which pose a huge risk of hydroplaning and screwing up whatever run you've made in an instant! much tighter, and more difficult than the dirt rally stages (1 or 2). the stages in wrc 8, while much more realistic, and awesome, have lots of VERY narrow sections.i gotta try my wheel, as that should make it loads better. i've put in a ton of hours now, and have adjusted as well as i'm able, but it still gets the best of me from time to time. wrc 8's controller handling is very imprecise. DR2.0's handling model has been refined over dirt rally, the cars have more grip and are more predictable - and to me feel more natural than the first.not only is 2.0 a better game overall than the others, i think its easier / more approachable than wrc 8. I haven't been this into a rally game since the original CM Rally games on PC. I've been playing this pretty much non-stop after buying it three days ago. There are also two trees for improving your car, but I haven't unlocked those yet so I'm not sure how they work exactly. There is also a fairly large skill tree where you can unlock things like getting more money for rewards, reducing staff fatigue, getting more secondary events. Also, some of these secondary events will tire your staff, so you need to balance in rest days as well. You need to pay an entry fee, and you need to weigh whether you have enough cash to maybe fail. You can choose to train to gain some XP, do a classic rally to earn some cash, or several other types of events. Can you afford the car repairs and continue on, or do you use one of the 4 restarts allotted to each race to try to do better?īetween major rallies you choose what to do in intervening days. That is going to cost you, but you are still making great time. you just slammed into a tree and broke off your front bumper and did severe transmission and engine damage. You are constantly thinking about the implications to your overall career during a race. What this means is that everything that happens to your car during a rally has an effect on your overall career. This may seem like a lot of micromanagement, but it is very streamlined through a great UI. You manage your team between each event, setting up 6 different disciplines such as money manager, mechanic, engineer, agent and even psychologist to keep your team's morale up. However, the thing that sets this game above the latest Dirt Rallies for me is the career mode. WRC 8 just hits so many good notes- great handling model, fantastic course designs and variance, and challenging difficulty. I've played all the rally games from CM Rally through Rallisport Challenge, Richard Burns, the Dirts and the latest Dirt Rally Games. After playing this for about 8 hours, I think it might be one of my favorite rally games yet.
