They can be the difference between a song that’s merely good and one that’s truly memorable.” – Mattieĭiscovering the right presets is akin to finding the perfect spices for a gourmet dish. “Your tools are extensions of your creative vision. If that sounds good, you can turn down the original kick and snare in the drum VST.Īh, you only have FL 7. Well, the drum pattern is fairly simple, so you could try adding some other kick and snare samples in the step sequencer. Please reply I need your guys opinions more then anyone. I'd never ever let you go, followed by I lied haha. Something told me you were more then rare, I never cared. I remember the nights we shared, midnight. So don't mind that, its just about the sound. Thats the oldest unfinished version of the song, and the lyrics aren't complete, correct, or properly timed. Here is another mix, I was screwing around with something and messed up "Something told me" It sounds robotic. "Always there" wasn't pitched corrected very well, and you can hear it badly. This was auto pitched corrected then manually, because it still sucked :0 I really wanted to go for the poppy type voice but I don't know, it sounds more indie to me. I have been using FL for some time now but only to write and produce songs. You could told me to do some techniques to mix pop vocals, but I'm not really sure how to do any of that in FL. I thought I knew a lil something something but it turns out, there is waaay more to be learned. I love Hendrix, but you'll never hear me say, "Oh, it adds character when he's out of tune." It sounds like **** when his guitar is out of tune. On some of Hendrix' live stuff, his guitar is horribly out of tune. I know Tox heaps scorn on Hendrix as often as possible, and I'm not going to go into why he's full of **** on that point here ( ). I can tell you that even in the limited amount of using pitch correction software that I've had, even small corrections make a significant difference in the overall sound of a track, even where off-pitchness is not necessarily that noticible. I will still try to get the pitch as good as I can when I record my vocals (by doing multiple takes) for two reasons:Ī)It will lessen the amount of work I have to do in the pitch correction software and make getting good results easier.ī)Since I at least occasionally perform live, it's good for me to work on my vocal pitch as much as possible anyway. I've only recently acquired pitch correction software, and have very little experience using it. After all, multi-tracking in no way represents an actual musical performance. They will make mixing it easier.Īs far as pitch correction, why not use it if it's available? You may as well argue - and I've actually read some reactionary purists do so - that multi-track recording itself is fakery. Perfect pitch corrected vocals don't make a good record. This does not mean I'd rather listen to System of a Douche or Shitknot than Robert Johnson. I agree that modern recordings are generally far better mixed than older ones. An important element, but only an element. Of course mixing is but an element in the overall aesthetic appeal/success/value/orgasmatronic righteousness of a recording. Vocals that are perfectly in pitch will absolutely make mixing them easier.
